Paul V. Roberts/AEESP Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award Nomination

Please take a moment to read AEESP's Conflict of Interest Policy to ensure nominators and/or nominees do not pose a conflict of interest prior to submitting nominations.

Requirements for nominators and letter writers:

  • One nomination per cycle per award for a given category may be submitted by a single nominator.
  • There is no limit on the number of nomination packages to which an individual letter writer may contribute.
  • If a single individual is serving as a nominator or letter writer for more than one nominee during a single cycle, they will be contacted to provide a ranking of their contributions before the committee's review.

When to apply:

The nomination period is open beginning October 15, 2024 and will close January 15, 2025 at 11:59 pm ET (U.S.).

Complete nomination package includes:

  1. A nomination message to include items listed on the form below.
  2. A project summary written by the student, including an overview, the advancement of environmental science and engineering, and intellectual merit and broader impacts of the work (similar to an NSF proposal).  This document is limited to 1200 words.
  3. A 2-page CV for the student.

These first-stage submissions will be evaluated on the contributions to the advancement of environmental engineering and science, intellectual merit and broader impacts of the research and clarity of presentation.  The most highly ranked nominees will be invited to submit full-length dissertations for a second-stage review and consideration for a dissertation award.  Second-stage evaluation criteria are similar to first-state review.

* The AEESP Awards Committee has ultimate discretion for which Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation award gets selected.
